Oleg Orlov questioned at trial on "The International Tribunal for Chechnya"

In Nizhny Novgorod, at the trial on recognition of the monograph "The International Tribunal for Chechnya" as extremist, Oleg Orlov, a member of the board of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", has testified as a witness.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 6, 2012, at the request of the prosecutor, a civil investigation was initiated. According to the prosecution, the information contained in the book is humiliating a certain group of people and triggers actions against it. According to Stanislav Dmitrievskiy, one of the authors of the book, the claims to its content are politically motivated.

"On January 30, Oleg Orlov told the court that the information in the book about the crimes committed by the parties in the course of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus is by more than 50 percent based on the results of monitoring, and stressed that the information had been used by the authors absolutely correctly," the "Memorial" says in its statement.

Mr Orlov also noted that the authors of the book have suggested legal ways to combat impunity, which is the main topic of the book. Answering the question of Alexander Manov, Dmitrievskiy's advocate, whether the book contains "hidden meanings or appeals," the witness said that the book is expressly very clearly calling for justice.
