Confrontations between the participants of a protest action and the police took place in Ismailly

At about 20:00 local time about 150 residents of the town of Ismailly gathered in a group and approached the building of executive authority demanding resignation of Head of the district Nizami Alekperov. The police used sound and flash grenades, rubber clubs and tear gas for dispersal of the action.

According to the latest information received by the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent from local activists, at 21:00 the protesters numbering about 100 persons demanding Alekperov’s resignation made a fire on the road to the building of executive authority, in 700 meters distance from the regional Administration. The participants of the action started burning down vehicle tires. 15 minutes later the personnel of security forces passed to the offensive beating the participants severely and detaining them, local activists state.

At night of January, 25, disturbances with the participation of about two thousand people took place in Ismailly. The crowd carried out a massacre in “Charyg” hotel and then set fire to it and the cars parked in the courtyard. After that the protesters crushed the villa of Head of the district and set fire to the buildings and vehicles there. According to the police, the disturbances started with a road accident. During the protest action three policemen and a local resident got injured. Earlier, five injured persons were reported.

A criminal case was initiated, a joint statement of the Ministry of interior Affairs and Prosecutor General’s of Azerbaijan runs.

Today local residents tried to hold actions of protest in front of district Administration several times demanding Alekperov’s resignation. However, the police and Inner troops dispersed them with the use of tear gas. According to different unofficial data, 20 to 50 persons were detained.
