In Volgograd Region, activist goes on hunger strike to protect historic floating landing stage

In the farm yard of Bobry near the town of Krasnoslobodsk of the Volgograd Region, Daniel Enzhil, the leader of members of the informal youth movement for the protection of the floating landing stage, went on a hunger strike because of the plans of the leaders of the Volgograd Academy of Physical Education (VAPE) to demolish the old building, the river attraction of the region the floating landing stage.

The floating landing stage (the floating landing stage that can be used as a floating river boat station) served for a while as a row sport base of the Volgograd Academy of Physical Education, and the floating landing stage was included in its balance sheet. At present, it is in a dilapidated condition. The informal youth movement was organized after the VAPE's plans to demolish historic structure because of the impossibility of its restoration became known.

On April 24, activists pitched the tent camp near the floating landing stage. At present, there are five persons at the tent camp. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Roman Bayer, one of the defenders of the floating landing stage.

According to his story, Daniel Enzhil does not accept food, but he does not waive the water. "Our demands are to meet the authorities and the VAPE's leaders and decide on the fate of the floating landing stage," he said.

Besides, on April 24, the public information system "Demokrator" published an information letter in protection of the floating landing stage, in which the activists asked Vladimir Putin and the VAPE's leaders to take steps to preserve the historic building.

"The statements of the VAPE's leaders of the impossibility to restore the floating landing stage contradict the results of opening of the walls of the floating landing stage's body. Even non-professional can see that all the wooden structures of the floating landing stage are absolutely safe, and some boards look like new ones. Our region has not so many tourist attractions to destroy one of them," the letter states.
