Rostov-on-Don: five colony wardens arrested on suspicion of beating prisoner

In Rostov-on-Don, five wardens of the penal colony IK-10, accused of beating a prisoner, were arrested by the court decision. This was reported by the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) in the Rostov Region.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that on November 29, following the results of the ICRF's investigation into the video, posted on the Internet, which showed how prison wardens were beaten a prisoner, five persons were detained.

The criminal case was instituted against the suspects two former and three current wardens of the penal colony IK-10 under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of power with use of violence and special tools), the website of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation in the Rostov region reports.

The victim was serving his sentence for intentional infliction of bodily harm and robbery. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the regime of detention and refused to put on a prisoner uniform, the "Interfax" reports with reference to a source in the press service of the ICRF in the Rostov Region.

However, according to Oksana Sukhareva, Senior Assistant of the Prosecutor of the Rostov Region, the incident was triggered by the towel, with which the injured inmate Shamil Magomedov, who came to serve his sentence from Dagestan, performed namaz (prayer to be performed five times a day, which is strictly mandatory for practicing Muslim, note of the "Caucasian Knot"), since he refused to give it to the wardens of the penal colony, the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" reports.
