Defendant in case of attempted terror act in Moscow's Red Square pleads fully guilty

Today, the Moscow City Court held the court session in the case on an attempted terror act in Red Square in Moscow in 2010. Defendant Ilyas Saidov, who concluded a pre-trial agreement with investigators during the preliminary investigation, admitted his guilt.

On December 31, 2010, an explosion occurred in a hotel room in Golovachov Street in Moscow. As a result of the explosion, Zavzhat Daudova, a native of Dagestan, was killed, and a receptionist was injured. The building of the cottage-hotel was destroyed. The investigators suggest that the deceased woman accidentally activated an explosive device, which she planned to activate on New Year's Eve in Red Square.

On January 29, 2011, Ilyas Saidov was detained in Dagestan. On October 30, it was announced that the Ilyas Saidov's case was brought to court. He is accused of banditry, terrorism, murder, and other crimes, and maximum punishment for those crimes is up to life imprisonment.

According to the investigators, in the bus "Makhachkala-Moscow", Ilyas Saidov delivered to Moscow two bombs that were intended for female suicide bombers to organize an explosion in Red Square. The Ilyas Saidov's role was to control transportation of explosive devices to be activated by Zeinap Suyunova and Zavzhat Daudova. Earlier, the newspaper "Kommersant" reported with reference to its own sources that Ilyas Saidov was paid 12,000 roubles for the transportation of the explosive devices, which were hidden in two stoves for saunas.

At the trial, the defendant has confirmed that he pleads fully guilty and repents of his deeds.

The Prosecutor's Office asked the Court to find Ilyas Saidov guilty and sentence him to 15 years of imprisonment in high security penal colony. The court scheduled sentencing for November 28.
