Volgograd residents report on smog, which covered city central areas during weekend

On October 20 and 21, a terracotta smog covered central districts of the city of Volgograd. City residents believe that the factory "Krasny Oktyabr" could be a source of the smog. The Environmental Service of the City Mayoralty twice took air samples and revealed in them only excess of maximum permissible concentration of dust. A dispatch operator of the factory claims no problems with emissions.

The terracotta smog covered the city and the Volga River, and it was clearly seen from the Mamaev Kurgan that pipes the factory "Krasny Oktyabr" were the source of the smog, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Ekaterina Sviridova, a resident of the Krasnooktyabrsky District of Volgograd, reported on the red dust in her apartment. "You know, what kind of dust I found in the morning on the kitchen table? It was red dust. I forgot to close the window," the pensioner says.

On October 20 and 21, to react to the complaints, filed by the city residents, staff members of the laboratory of the Municipal Enterprise (ME) "City Department for analytical operational monitoring of natural environment" twice visited the factory "Krasny Oktyabr" and took air samples. This was reported by Lyubov Dotsenko, engineer-ecologist of the City Department.

According to her, on October 20, no excess of maximum permissible concentration was revealed, and on October 21, only the test results on dust were available, and they showed excess of maximum permissible concentration.
