Power agents torture Akhmedkhan Aushev, detained in Nazran, his lawyer asserts

Law enforcement agents tortured 26-year Akhmedkhan Aushev, who was detained during a special operation, held in Nazran on June 29. This was claimed by his lawyer Luiza Isaeva.

The lawyer Luiza Isaeva claims that Akhmedkhan Aushev was tortured by power agents and filed an appeal for medical examination of her client.

"My statements are based on the testimony of Akhmedkhan Aushev himself and on the fact that I myself saw signs of beatings on his body. Investigators tortured my client to obtain his confession," the lawyer said.

Besides, appeals were filed to the supervising prosecutor and to the name of Alexander Kucher, a representative of the Public Supervising Commission of North Ossetia. "Two days passed, however, till present, I received no responses to my motions," the lawyer stated.

According to her, she managed to meet Akhmedkhan Aushev for the first time in ten days after the agreement for his defence was concluded. According to Inessa Ausheva, the detainee's wife, the meeting was postponed intentionally to wait till signs of beatings and humiliation of her husband would disappear.

The lawyer Luiza Isaeva treats the actions of power agents against Akhmedkhan Aushev as a kidnapping.

"In accordance with the law, if a person is detained, officers must present a resolution in connection with what incident the person is being detained and what authorities carry out the detention. And within 12 hours, in accordance with the letter of the law, the detainee's relatives should be informed of the detainee's whereabouts. None of that has been done, therefore, it was not the detention, but the kidnapping," the lawyer said.

Vladimir Marzakulov, Chief of the UVD (Interior Department) of the Prigorodny District, refused to comment on the statements of the lawyer Luiza Isaeva to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
