Armenian singers refused to participate in “Eurovision-2012” in Baku

Armenian singers declared that they refused to take part in “Eurovision-2012” song contest in the capital of Azerbaijan in connection with “anti-Armenian policy” this state pursued.

It should be reminded that 43 countries including Armenia submitted applications for participation in “Eurovision-2012” song contest that will be held from May, 22, till May, 26, in Baku. The Government of Azerbaijan directed to the European Broadcasting Union a letter of guarantee at “Eurovision-2012” about securing safety for all the guests who will come to the contest.

Armenian singers declared their boycotting the song contest after on February, 23, according to the information of the Armenian party, serviceman Albert Adibekyan who was on duty at one of the posts near the settlement of Chinari, Tavush district of Armenia, got a gunshot wounding as a result of sniper’s fire from the territory of Azerbaijan.

The singers called for Public Television of Armenia to abstain from sending a participant to Azerbaijan. They are ready to take part in the contest of 2012 if the European Broadcasting Union decides to transfer it to any other country.

There has been no response to this statement of Armenian singers from the Azerbaijani party.
