Resident of Dagestan says he was beaten and robbed by policemen

Magomed Magomaev, a resident of the village of Burtunai, Kazbek District of Dagestan, reports about lawlessness of policemen. According to his story, he was beaten and robbed at the Kizilyurt ROVD (District Interior Division).

"I was in Makhachkala, where I went to visit my wife, who is in hospital. At the Sulak post on the Federal Highway "Rostov-Baku" I was stopped by the police without any reason. I wear a long beard, so, apart of the car documents, they demanded to show my passport," Mr Magomaev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his version, he had no documents on him, and he showed the passport of his brother, with whom he looks alike. "However, the policemen didn't like this behaviour. They said that we need to go to the Kizilyurt ROVD to check my identity," said Magomaev.

There, according to his story, law enforcers behaved rudely. "When I was brought into the building of the ROVD, they began threatening me, saying that we – the Wahhabis – should be killed. Then, one of the policemen brought scissors and demanded that I cut my beard shorter. I refused; and policemen started beating me," said the man.

Magomaev claims that they "kicked him all over his body; then someone pulled out 5000 roubles out of his pocket." "After that, they let me go. Now I have pain in all the body, I have bruises everywhere; I want to go to doctors, for them to assess the severity of injuries," said the victim.

Magomaev is 34 years old; he was never registered by the police; he is married and employed; they take care of six children.

In their turn, the on duty unit of the Kizilyurt ROVD told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they knew nothing about the incident.
