Volgograd: court cancels verdict against ex-prosecutor who knocked down a child with her car

Today, the Volgograd Regional Court cancelled the verdict against Elena Ivanova, ex-employee of the prosecutor's office, who had been found guilty of deaths of a six-year-old boy in a car accident. The court sent the case back to the district court for re-consideration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 30, Elena Ivanova, was found guilty of committing a road traffic accident that caused death of a child. At sentencing, the Central District Court of Volgograd took into account the fact that Elena Ivanova was bringing up a child, born in 2002, and deferred execution of her sentence until her child would be 14 years old, that would be in five years. Parents of the deceased boy were dissatisfied with the decision of the District Court and challenged the Ivanova's sentence.

"I believe that my guilt has not been proved in the trial. It was an accident," claimed Elena Ivanova today at the court processing of a complaint.

According to her lawyer, her sentence should be cancelled, and proceedings - stopped due to lack of evidence of incriminated crime in Ivanova's actions, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

In his turn, Roman Boldyrev, the representative of the public prosecution, told the court that he treated the verdict of the District Court lawful and justified. He asked to leave the sentence unchanged.

"The verdict against Elena Ivanova, ex-employee of the District Prosecutor's Office, who had been found guilty and sentenced to two and a half years of imprisonment with temporary suspension of five years, has been cancelled. The case was brought to the Central District Court for a re-consideration by different panel of judges," the "Interfax" quotes a representative of the Regional Court as saying.

Parents of the deceased boy and their lawyer failed to come to appeal hearing.
