A trial on the case of Nino Burjanadze’s husband is starting in Georgia

A trial on the case of Badri Bitsadze, ex- Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, ex-Head of frontier police, Nino Burjanadze’s husband, will start in the city court of Tbilisi today. Bitsadze is in search and, according to his wife, is going to ask for a political asylum in one of the EU countries.

Bitsadze is accused of a group assault at policemen during dispersal of the oppositional action in Rustaveli avenue, Tbilisi, at night of May, 26. On the same day two victims were reported: a working and an ex-officer of the police.

The city court of Tbilisi selected payment of a pledge for Nino Burjanadze’s husband, ex-Speaker of the Parliament, as a preventive punishment. On the expiry of payment term the court changed the form of preventive punishment for an arrest.

Shota Utiashvili, Head of Informational and Analytic Department of the republican Ministry of Interior Affairs, was summoned for interrogation on Bitsadze’s case. 65 witnesses of defense, among them leader of “Democratic Movement – United Georgia” Nino Burjanadze and one of the leaders of the oppositional “National Forum” Gubaz Sanikidze will be interrogated on the case, IA “Trend” reports.

According to Nino Burjanadze, Badri Bitsadze intends to ask for a political asylum in one of the countries of the European Union because he does not expect a fair trial on his case, ITRK “Mir” reports.
