Trial on terror acts in Georgia: Russians sentenced to 30 years in prison

Today, the Tbilisi City Court has sentenced 15 defendants in the case on terror acts in the Georgian territory, including Evgeniy Borisov, a serviceman of the Russian armed forces stationed in Abkhazia, the press service of the court reports.

The case dealt with the following explosions: on September 22 in Tbilisi near the US Embassy; on October 2 on the railway bridge Chaladidi in the Khobi District; on October 21 at the Tbilisi railway station; and on November 28 in the outskirt of Tbilisi, in Mukhiani. On November 28, a terror act was committed in front of the central office of the Georgia's oppositional Labour Party, where a peaceful woman was killed.

"Evgeniy Borisov and Mukhran Tskhadaya, who worked at construction of a military base in the village of Chuburkhindji, Gali District, and collaborated with Russian secret services, set up a terrorist organization with the aim to intimidate the population in different regions of Georgia, cause unrests and encroach on the strategic, political and economic interests of Georgia," reads the court statement.

Borisov, an employee of Russian secret services, Merab Kolbaya, Gogita Arkaniya, Djoni Abuladze, Gotcha Khurtsilava and David Kekutiya were sentenced to 30 years in prison each. The supreme punishment – life imprisonment – was awarded to Mukhran Tskhadaya. Borisov, Mukhran Tskhadaya and Melor Tskhadaya were sentenced in absentia, the "News-Georgia" reports.

The remaining detainees, whose names were not disclosed, received 2-15 years of imprisonment, the "Georgia Online" adds.
