No general reduction in gasoline prices in Chechnya

Several filling stations in Grozny keep the earlier gasoline prices. According to drivers, owners of some of them are deliberately selling only expensive gasoline with high octane number.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 8 the Chechen Prosecutor's Office negotiated with major suppliers of petroleum products and managed to reduce the cost of a litre of motor fuel in the region by 1 rouble. Nevertheless, the decision is followed not by all filling stations, according to motorists.

"Some stations in Grozny stick to earlier prices. They put the new price on the board, but still take one rouble more for every litre. Cashiers assure that they obey to their bosses, and that prices will go down later," said Magomed Sh., a resident of the republic.

"After it was announced that the cost of a litre of gasoline would be reduced by a rouble, the owners of filling stations left only the filling columns with A-98 and A-95 in operation and closed the ones with A-92 and A-80 gasoline. They explain that they had no supplies of these brands. This is how they compensated for lower prices," said Vakhid B., a resident of Grozny.

Over the last week of May gasoline went up at Chechen filling stations. This is the second price increase on fuels and lubricants in the republic since start of May.
