Book on conflicts in Southern and Northern Caucasus presented in Georgia

On November 12, in Tbilisi, the book by Thomas de Vaal, a senior expert on the Caucasus at the Carnegie Centre "The Caucasus: Introduction to Conflict" was presented.

The book was published by the Oxford University Press. Thomas de Vaal gives a general review of the conflicts in the Caucasus - in Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Chechnya. He gives the history of the conflicts, and describes the periods of military confrontation between the parties and post-war situations.

According to the author, he tried to be the first to publish a book collecting materials of all the conflicts in the Northern and Southern Caucasus, which are not settled until now.

"Of course, in 223 pages it is impossible to give a deep and comprehensive analysis of the conflicts. I've noticed that there's not a single book about this region, which could be read and understood by a persons who knows nothing about the Southern Caucasus. I decided to fill the gap. The book gives a brief story about the conflicts and about religion; it contains maps and chronology of events. A little about everything, to allow a person who has no time to read 10 books, just to read one," Thomas de Vaal told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
