Conference of authorities and human rights defenders planned in Northern Caucasus

The upcoming winter in Northern Caucasus will see a big conference, dedicated to drafting proposals on further regional development. It assumes to be attended by officials from Russian government, leaders of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), law enforcement agencies, human rights and other public organizations.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by Liudmila Alekseeva, the author of the idea of the forum, a member of the Presidential Council for Human Rights and the chair of the Moscow Helsinki Group.

She noted that the conference may take place already in December this year; according to her story, Dmitri Medvedev has instructed Alexander Khloponin, his plenipotentiary in the NCFD, to organize the forum.

According to Ms Alekseeva, the willingness to help in organizing the conference was also expressed by Vladimir Lukin, Russian Ombudsman, and Nikolai Svanidze, a member of the Board of the Russian Public Chamber and a prominent journalist.
