In Georgia, lawyers suspend their protest action in front of parliament

Georgian lawyers have suspended their protest action held in front of the building of the parliament of Georgia for ten days. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze, the organizer of the action.

"We've suspended our protest action till June 3, since on that day we plan to move our political statements. We did it on purpose, in order not to prevent the opposition parties from participating in the elections. Besides, we do not exclude that on May 30 provocations can be organized against our action," Mr Khachapuridze said.

According to his story, lawyers studied the electoral legislation in force and saw that it "promotes the victory at the elections of only one party - the United National Movement." Then, they drafted ten proposals towards improvement of the Electoral Code and sent them to the parliament. In particular, the lawyers offer that the Central Electoral Commission makes its decision by 2/3 of votes, and the appeal principle against all electoral processes is amended. The changes, in the opinion of the protesters, "will allow nobody to falsify elections."
