Bostanov prepared the visit of the Supreme Mufti of Turkey to Karachai-Circassia

The murder of Ismail-Hadji Bostanov, Deputy Chair of the Spiritual Department of Moslems of Karachai-Circassia and Stavropol Territory and Rector of the Islamic Institute, committed on September 20 in Cherkessk, can be connected with Mr Bostanov's visit to Istanbul this summer, where he agreed on the visit of the Supreme Mufti of Turkey to his republic. This is the opinion of a source, close to Bostanov.

"It would be a very important visit for the Moslems - the first such visit during the whole post-Soviet time. In fact, the visiting Mufti is not only a guest of the house of government. It was planned that he would visit a number of mosques of Karachai-Circassia and meet Moslems there. Besides, it was also an interest to the educational process of Moslems. It was planned that the Mufti would visit the Islamic Institute, have individual meetings with students and read a general 1.5-2-hour lecture to students," the source, who preferred to remain anonymous, said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The source said that Bostanov was shot dead in his car on his way back from mosque Ust-Dzheguta after a celebratory prayer. His minor son, who was driving the car, was wounded but survived.
