Ingushetia and Kalmykia are leaders in Russian rating of fighting HIV
The authors of the study of the situation with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) detection and treatment in Russia have placed Ingushetia and Kalmykia into the group of 13 best regions. Doctors of the Stavropol and Volgograd Regions are also successfully coping with the problem, while in other regions of the Southern Federal and North-Caucasian Federal Districts (SFD and NCFD) the problem is expressed at an average level.

Volgograd activists hold solo pickets in Navalny's support
Three solo pickets were held in Volgograd demanding to release the opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, and other political prisoners. Policemen treated one of the pickets as a group one, because a passerby helped the picketer collect her posters flying in the wind.

Prosecutors listen to Nagavkin after his detention in Volgograd
After the detention of Igor Nagavkin during a picket, the Prosecutor's Office for the Volgograd Region accepted his complaint against investigators and promised to examine the case before confirming the indictment.

Today, Igor Nagavkin, an activist, was detained at his solo picket, where he demanded that the prosecutor's office pay attention to his criminal prosecution under a theft case. After his conversation with an investigator, Nagavkin was released and decided to continue his picket.

Coordinator of Navalny's Volgograd office complains about poor conditions in custody
The inmates kept at the special detention centre in Volgograd have not enough clean bedding; there are no hygiene means there; and detainees are not given medicines, Evgeny Kochegin, the coordinator of Alexei Navalny's Volgograd office, has complained. He intends to appeal against his arrest at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

Volgograd activists complain about unjustified detentions
After the actions in support of Navalny, law enforcers detained Volgograd activists, Vladimir Kruglyakov, Galina Zabolotneva and Vladislav Murashkin. The activists were outraged by the unjustified policemen's actions and announced their intention to file a complaint about the violation of their rights.

Political analysts predict decay of protests in Southern Russia
Navalny's arrest triggered no mass protests in Krasnodar, Volgograd and Rostov-on-Don, since many of the participants in the January actions were not his supporters, the political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have noted and predicted a further decay of protest activeness in the regions.

Participation of residents of small towns of Southern Russia in actions in support of Alexei Navalny indicate a penetration of protest moods deep into the country, by analogy with Belarus, the political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have noted.

Volgograd: at protest action, townspeople express dissatisfaction with authorities
In Volgograd, the organizers of the action in support of the Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, have estimated the audience at 500 people; some protesters were detained. Activists explained their decision to go out to protest by dissatisfaction with authorities' policies.

The protests on January 23 became the largest in the past quarter century, journalist Sergey Smirnov reports. The main motive for participation in the protest actions is social discontent, while the political component has faded into the background, political analyst Yevgeny Minchenko suggests.
