South-Ossetia policeman arrested for torturing detainees
A court in Tskhinvali has ruled to detain Atsamaz Naniev, a policeman, as a suspect in the case of torturing detainees; it was done after the attempt on the life of the head of the South-Ossetian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

Tskhinvali residents commemorate victims of Beslan tragedy
An action in memory of the victims of the terror act in Beslan was held in the Theatre Square of Tskhinvali. The day before, in the square, people lit candles, which were spread out on the ground. Anyone could come up and light a candle in memory of those killed in the terror act committed 16 years ago.

In South Ossetia, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs removed from office
The President of South Ossetia signed a decree on the removal from office of Andrei Tskhovrebov, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Chief of the Criminal Militia of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), whose subordinates were detained in a criminal case on the death of Inal Djabiev.

Half of South-Ossetian MPs announce boycott
Seventeen out of 34 South-Ossetian parliamentarians have suspended their work pending resignation of Uruzmag Djagaev, the Public Prosecutor General, to whom the parliament announced a vote of distrust after the death of Inal Djambiev, detained by law enforcers. Djagaev refused to follow the MPs' demand.

In North and South Ossetia, Day of Knowledge postponed to honour victims of Beslan tragedy
In North Ossetia, schools will organize solemn morning gatherings on September 4, after a three-day watch in memory of people who fell victim to the terror act in Beslan, the Ministry of Education and Science of North Ossetia reports. In South Ossetia, the new school year will begin on September 5, the republic's authorities announce.

Sources report brutal beatings of two more detainees in South Ossetia
Nikolai Tskhovrebov, detained within the attempt case on the head of the South-Ossetian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), was hospitalized with traces of beatings; he cannot walk, the hospital staff has stated. Another suspect, Gennady Kulaev, has been denied advocates' access for a week; information has appeared that he had been beaten and tortured with electric current.

The protesters who gathered in front of the building of the Cabinet of Ministers (CoM) in Tskhinval and demanded resignation of the head of South Ossetia have gone home, said Merab Pukhaev, the acting head of the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
