Dagestani MIA's reasoning on public apologies sparks disputes in network

Public apologies are appropriate when a person has not only broken the law, but also neglected the public opinion, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan has stated. Some network users opposed the practice of public apologies, while their opponents have supported the MIA's opinion.

On June 15, a video was posted on the Telegram channel of the Dagestani MIA showing a young man giving explanations to the camera about the violation he had committed.

"If a person violates the law consciously, intentionally, by demonstrating his disrespect for others … then to come to one's senses and apologize is a completely reasonable decision," the caption to the video explains.

Some commentators opposed public apologies.

"If one has violated, punish him/her according to the law; why using these childish manner of filming and showing everything to the whole country?" the user Ams has asked.

"I haven't heard a violator apologize in any Russian region yet," said Shamil Saidov, another user.
