Azerbaijan reports shootout on Armenian border

From the territory of the Vardenis District, Armenian militaries have shelled at the positions of Azerbaijani soldiers in the Kelbadjar District, after which the latter opened a return fire, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 10, the Azerbaijani MoD stated that Armenian military servicemen shelled the positions of Azerbaijani soldiers stationed in the Kelbadjar District from the border area of the Vardenis District. On the same day, the Armenian MoD refuted this information.

In the evening on May 11, Armenian militaries shelled the positions of Azerbaijani soldiers, the Azerbaijani MoD has informed.

"From positions located in the direction of the dwelling settlements of Azizli and Yukhary Shordja of the Basarkechar District (Vardenis District of the Gegarkunisk Region of Armenia, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), units of the Armenian Armed Forces have intermittently shelled from various calibre weapons the positions of the Azerbaijani Army stationed in the direction of the settlements of Yukhary Airym and Zyailik of the Kelbadjar District," the Azeri MoD said in its statement sent today to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The MoD has added that Azerbaijani militaries opened a return fire.
