Azerbaijan defines places for two BCPs with Armenia

The new border checkpoints (BCPs) will be set up in the dwelling settlements of Eivazly and Gazanchy in the south-western part of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, the Azeri Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 6, the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliev, and the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, had a meeting in Brussels. They agreed to set up, by the end of April, a commission to delimit the countries mutual borders and to start drafting a peace agreement.

On May 5, the Azerbaijani Prime Minister, Ali Asadov, signed an order on amending the list of the BCPs across which the country's state border passes. According to the document, it is planned to create four new BCPs.

Two BCPs are being created at the international airports of Azerbaijan "Fizuli" and "Zagatala" located in the districts that have the same names. Besides, the checkpoint "Eivazly" is created in the village of the same name in the Gubadli District on the Armenian border. Another BCP on the border with Armenia – "Gazanchy" – will be located in the village of the same name in the Zangilan District.

The MFA has added that following the 2020 44-day-long war, Azerbaijan had regained control over the sections of the border with Armenia located in the Zangilan, Gubadli, Lachin and Kelbadjar Districts. A section of the road connecting the Armenian cities of Goris and Gafan passes through the village of Eivazly.
