Thirty-nine people detained at protests in Yerevan

Today, 39 activists have been detained during protest actions in different districts of Yerevan, the Armenian police report.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in Armenia, street protesters demand the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. On April 27, oppositionists held three marches in Yerevan. According to the police, 52 people were detained at the protest actions that day. Today, the opposition supporters have begun marches to Yerevan from the Armavir and Aragatsotn Regions with the demand of the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan and his government.

The participants of the protest action in Yerevan on Arshakunyats Street were detained, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent was told at the office of the “Fatherland” Party. According to the party’s spokesperson, the activists held a march, calling on residents of Yerevan to join the protest movement. “On Arshakunyats Street, the activists blocked the traffic, but the police rudely stopped the action of disobedience,” the office of the “Fatherland” Party reported.

Another protest action, organized by the “Liberation” movement, was stopped by the police in Republic Square. Activists in white coats and with a caricature of Nikol Pashinyan intended to hold a performance. However, the police prevented the action and began to detain the activists, follows from the video posted on the Facebook* page of Nairi Ukhikyan, one of the leaders of the “Liberation” movement.

The police detained 39 activists during various protest actions in Yerevan for failure to obey lawful demands of the police, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent was informed by Zarzand Gabrielyan, the chief of the Media Relations Department of the Armenian police.

* On March 21, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities in Russia of the Meta Company, owning Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in connection with extremist activities.
