Dagestani MIA is searching for 2000 suspects of taking part in terrorist organizations

A total of 1967 residents of Dagestan are on the wanted list as members of international terrorist organizations, Abdurashid Magomedov, the head of the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), has announced at the session of the People's Assembly (Parliament).

"Last year, a total of 104 Dagestanis who had left for Syria to participate in international terrorist organizations were put on the wanted list; and 23 were detained upon their return from there. In total, there are currently 1967 people on the wanted list of Dagestanis who took part in terrorist organizations abroad," the TASS has quoted the minister as saying.

Over the past year, in Dagestan, the number of registered crimes of terrorist nature has decreased by almost a third and made 493 cases, while about 85% of such crimes were committed outside of Russia. "These are the criminal cases initiated against the citizens of Dagestan in the course of operative and other activities; their participation in 2015-2016 as members of armed gangs in the territories of Syria and Iraq was revealed," Mr Magomedov has stated.
