Volgograd citizen arrested after anti-war picket on Mamaev Kurgan

The court has arrested Vladislav Lygin, an activist, for 10 days for holding a picket on Mamaev Kurgan against the military operation in Ukraine. His defence intends to challenge the ruling.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that pickets calling to stop hostilities in Ukraine are held in Volgograd since February 24; during this period, more than 20 people were detained.

Vladislav Lygin, 24, was detained and taken to the police on March 3, his advocate Roman Zaitsev has informed. "They drew up a protocol under Article 20.2, Part 8, of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation; they immediately took him to court that arrested him for 10 days," Roman Zaitsev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The ruling says that Lygin held a public event in the form of a group picket.

The advocate has explained that on February 27, Lygin held a protest action against the hostilities in Ukraine; he stood with an anti-war poster. Lygin recorded a video. Since the video was recorded by several people, the outdoor video surveillance camera caught people standing and filming each other.

"We disagree with the position of the court and we will appeal against it," Mr Zaitsev has added.
