Peskov rules out Kremlin’s intervention in situation with Kadyrov and Yangulbaev family

The Kremlin does not have the opportunity and plans to delve into the validity of the claims against Ramzan Kadyrov in connection with the persecution of the Yangulbaev family: this is the prerogative of the law enforcement bodies, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov declares today.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 28, Chechen law enforcers presented to lawyers a letter signed by Zarema Musaeva in which she refused the services of an advocate. Human rights defenders and Abubakar Yangulbaev, a son of Zarema Musaeva, said she was subjected to pressure. The human rights defenders appealed to the court with a request to release Zarema Musaeva from arrest because of her poor health state. On January 31, Zarema Musaeva’s son Ibragim Yangulbaev was arrested in absentia by a court in Grozny in a case on justification of terrorism, and a criminal case was instituted against Zarema Musaeva on the use of violence against a public officer.

On January 20, the “Committee Against Torture”* announced that Zarema Musaeva, a spouse of retired federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev, was unconsciously taken away from her Nizhny Novgorod apartment in cars bearing state registration numbers with region code corresponded to Chechnya. On January 21, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov confirmed that the woman had been taken to Grozny and said that the Yangulbaev family faced a place “in prison or underground.”

Sons of Saidi Yangulbaev, who make public that they associate the persecution of their family with Ramzan Kadyrov, are abroad, and in case of any complaints from them, the “consideration would be in competence of the law enforcement bodies,” presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov states. “The matter is not in the Kremlin’s competence. If someone threatens them, then they should probably specifically name the person who threatens them,” the presidential press secretary noted.

Dmitry Peskov has also added that Vladimir Putin “has no plans” to look into the situation, the “Interfax” reports. “There are certain accusations against Ramzan Kadyrov, which are voiced from abroad. However, the Kremlin has no way to deal with the above. If the citizens of the Russian Federation have concerns related to their safety, then they should at least appeal to law enforcement bodies. And such allegations voiced from abroad cannot be a reason for the Kremlin to take any action, let alone put forward something against Ramzan Kadyrov,” the “Interfax” quotes Dmitry Peskov as saying.

The Kremlin does not plan to monitor the actions of the law enforcement bodies in the situation, the presidential press secretary adds. “The law enforcement bodies perform their functions and do that in a very definite way,” emphasized Dmitry Peskov as quoted by the RIA “Novosti”.
