Son's appeal to Musaeva triggers reactions in Dagestani public

Abubakar Yangulbaev has publicized his video message to his mother, Zarema Musaeva, who was arrested in Chechnya, expressing his confidence in her innocence. Visitors to the Dagestani Instagram public who have watched the video expressed their support for Yangulbaev and condemned the violence against the elderly woman.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 28, Chechen law enforcers presented to lawyers a letter signed by Zarema Musaeva in which she refused the services of an advocate. Human rights defenders and Abubakar Yangulbaev, a son of Zarema Musaeva, said she was subjected to pressure. The human rights defenders appealed to the court with a request to release Zarema Musaeva from arrest because of her poor health state. On January 31, a criminal case was instituted against Zarema Musaeva on the use of violence against a public officer.

On January 20, the “Committee Against Torture”* announced that Zarema Musaeva, a spouse of retired federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev, was unconsciously taken away from her Nizhny Novgorod apartment in cars bearing state registration numbers with region code corresponded to Chechnya. On January 21, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov confirmed that the woman had been taken to Grozny and said that the Yangulbaev family faced a place “in prison or underground.”

Abubakar Yangulbaev published the video appeal to his mother in the evening on January 31 in his Telegram channel. "I appeal to my mother, Zarema Musaeva, and ask the people who have access to her to show her this video," he has explained in the caption to the video.

"Mother, you are now a prisoner in the dragon's castle ... You can be sure that everyone in this world knows about you; and everyone supports you ... Everyone is surprised at how they allowed themselves to act towards you, an innocent woman. Never before they have so openly raised their hand against women, they have never dared acting like this," Abubakar Yangulbaev has stated.

The video appeal was posted at night on February 1, in particular, in the Instagram public "Voice of Dagestan".

In their comments, many users have expressed their support for Abubakar Yangulbaev and Zarema Musaeva. "Poor guy, let the Almighty help him and his family," the user bayrambekovaaa wrote, in particular. "Well, how can they abduct an adult woman? Why were her husband and son put on the federal wanted list? Whose road have they crossed?" the user patimazakhra has asked. "It means that they've already crossed the line; how can they touch women; it's a shame," the user bagamurm has noted.

* The “Committee Against Torture” (CaT) was included by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Russia in the register of NCOs-foreign agents in 2015. In this regard, leaders liquidated the organization and created a new legal entity: the “Committee for the Prevention of Torture”, which was also included in the list of foreign agents, and the organization was closed. At present, the “Committee Against Torture” operates as an unregistered public association.
