Kadyrov’s trip to Turkey raises questions about his interest in detention of six Russian citizens

An unofficial visit of Ramzan Kadyrov to Turkey may be connected with his attempt to influence the situation with the detention of natives of Chechnya in a case on espionage, political analyst Alexei Malashenko suggests. Ramzan Kadyrov travelled to Turkey in connection with criticism from opponents, Caucasian expert Ruslan Kutaev objects.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 13, the “Grozny” TV Channel reported that Ramzan Kadyrov had visited Turkey during his vacation.

On October 11, it became known that six citizens of Russia were detained in Turkey. According to the Turkish investigators’ version, the detainees were engaged in espionage “for political and military purposes.” Blogger Khasan Khalitov, a critic of Ramzan Kadyrov, said that the natives of Chechnya detained in Turkey had planned to kill him.

The visit of the leader of Chechnya to Turkey may be connected with the detention of the natives of Chechnya, suggests political analyst Alexei Malashenko, the head of research at the “Dialogue of Civilizations” Research Institute. “I think his visit is somehow connected with the detention of those people. Such coincidences simply do not happen. I don’t know exactly how the Ramzan Kadyrov’s visit is connected with the detention of the Chechen natives. However, I admit that the detainees may be affiliated with Ramzan Kadyrov and with the authorities of Chechnya,” Alexei Malashenko told the “Caucasian Knot”.

“I do not associate in any way the Ramzan Kadyrov’s visit to Turkey with the arrest or detention of those six persons. It [would be] a complete failure, self-discrediting, and actual recognition that those people are envoys of Ramzan Kadyrov,” said in turn Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations.

He associates the Ramzan Kadyrov’s visit to Turkey with the criticism from his opponents. “I am just more inclined to believe that this is public competition, the competition between Ramzan Kadyrov and his opponents,” Ruslan Kutaev said.
