Georgian President criticizes ruling party for reaction to Saakashvili’s statements

Mocking the Mikhail Saakashvili’s statements about returning to Georgia is inappropriate, President Salome Zurabishvili emphasizes. She notes that it is public agencies which should comment on the situation, not the “Georgian Dream” Party.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, Mikhail Saakashvili has announced his return to Georgia and noted that he stayed in Batumi. The politician posted a video message and urged his supporters to take part together with him in the voting at the municipal elections on October 2. Mikhail Saakashvili also called on his supporters to gather in the centre of Tbilisi on October 3.

The elections scheduled for tomorrow, October 2, should be held in a calm atmosphere, and the Mikhail Saakashvili’s statements hinder that, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili notes.

“This topic destroys the pre-election environment and put pressure on the already tense and tired society. Whoever inflates the topic, it turns out that they do not think about the country or fair elections, but are betting, as they say, [on] getting out on October 3 to the street and destabilize the situation,” said Salome Zurabishvili as quoted by the “Georgia Online”.

Meanwhile, the Georgian President has also criticized the reaction of the ruling party to the Mikhail Saakashvili’s statements. “Today, comments should come not from the [‘Georgian Dream’] party, but from public agencies, which are obliged to prove to the public with facts what is false and what is true, and thereby reassure people,” Salome Zurabishvili emphasized as quoted in the today’s post on the website of the “First Channel”.

Today, at a briefing, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the executive secretary of the “Georgian Dream” Party has compared Mikhail Saakashvili to a monkey. “It is impossible to assess such a ‘clown performance’ ... The man has not left Ukraine anywhere, but is now hiding and planning something from there,” the “InterPressNews” quotes Mamuka Mdinaradze as saying.
