Khalimat Taramova's friend announces her departure from Russia

Anna Manylova has left Russia, explaining this by the threats she received after Khalimat Taramova's escape from her relatives in Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 10, 2021, law enforcers took Khalimat Taramova, who was hiding in the Dagestan shelter for domestic violence victims, out to her relatives in Chechnya. On September 4, Taramova stated in a video that she was fine and asked not to spread rumours about her harassment by the family. The girl's friend Anna Manylova suggested that the video was recorded under pressure.

Anna Manylova said that she had left for Europe, since after Taramova had escaped from her home she received anonymous threats. In February 2021, as she said, threats came from people who presented themselves as Taramova's relatives. Manylova believes that her Instagram stories are regularly watched by those close to Ramzan Kadyrov, and there was an attempt to hack her social networks. So far, she does not plan to return to Russia, the "Dozhd" (Rain) TV Channel* reports.

The women whose behaviour is treated by their relatives as a disgrace to the family may become victims of the so-called "honour killings" in the Caucasus. These murders are committed by relatives, most often by the father or a brother. While homosexual men are persecuted by law enforcers, the fate of lesbians and transgender women is entirely in the hands of their relatives, who are often no less cruel.
