Dagestani resident sentenced to a year of imprisonment for justifying terrorism

In Rostov-on-Don, the Southern District Military Court found a resident of Dagestan guilty of justifying terror acts and sentenced him to a year of imprisonment in a penal colony.

The Court found that Abakar Valiev, a 19-year-old native of the village of Tsebari in the Tsuntinsky District, was guilty of publicly justifying terrorism through posts on social media. The young man was sentenced under the article, which provides the punishment of up to seven years of imprisonment.

“It was found that in May 2020, the defendant used his mobile phone to post comments on a social media platform containing a positive assessment of terrorist activities and approving the commission of terror acts,” the press service for the Southern District Military Court reported.

Abakar Valiev pleaded guilty and was sentenced to imprisonment in a penal colony.

On August 11, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don found Imran Yasiev, a resident of Dagestan, guilty of justifying terrorism on social media and imposed a 400,000-rouble fine on him.
