LGBT Opponents stand up for Georgian Patriarchy

Participants of the rally in Tbilisi have called on to stop attacks on the Georgian Orthodox Church for the fact that the Patriarchate opposed the holding of a gay parade.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 1-5, activists of the LGBT community are holding the “LGBT Week” in Tbilisi, which will end with the “March of Dignity” in central Tbilisi.

On July 4, the “Alliance of Georgian Patriots” Party organized an action in central Tbilisi against the LGBT community and in support of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

"We are protesting against the dirty campaign directed against the Georgian Church and Georgia. Of course, it has to do with the LGBT events," the “News-Georgia” quotes Irakli Lomiya, one of the participants in the action, as saying.

In particular, according to the “News-Georgia”, protesters criticized Nino Lomdjariya, the Georgian Ombudsperson, whom the “Alliance of Georgian Patriots” regard as involved in the attacks on the Georgian Orthodox Church.

The Georgian Patriarchate stated earlier that the notion of "March of Dignity" has nothing to do with "dignity", but is "a shift in universal human values, an essential and deliberate distortion thereof." In her turn, Ms Lomdjariya pointed out that in recent years, members of the LGBT community "have faced obstacles in exercising their constitutional rights – the freedoms of self-expression and assembly."
