Signers of petition to President Putin call Abdullaev a victim of lawlessness

In their comments under the petition addressed to Vladimir Putin, Internet users note that the Russian President should ensure a fair investigation and demand to return to custody a police inspector, suspected of killing Azerbaijani Vekil Abdullaev.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 5, an appeal to President Putin was posted on Change.org platform. Authors of the petition called for punishment of the killer of ethnic Azerbaijani Vekil Abdullaev. Activists expressed their indignation by the fact that Alexander Bastrykin, the chairman of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), ordered to release from custody the suspect, Alexander Gusev, the senior inspector of the road police (known as GIBDD) of the Novosibirsk Region.

On May 28, not far from Novosibirsk, policeman Alexander Gusev accidentally shot dead 19-year-old Azerbaijani Vekil Abdullaev while trying to detain him. Meanwhile, the inspector later was set free.

By 2:00 p.m. Moscow time on June 9, the petition entitled “Punish the killer of Vekil Abdullaev” gained 3102 signatures.

In their comments posted under the text of the petition, some users considered Vekil Abdullaev a victim of lawlessness. “It’s a shame for a country that imagines itself to be a rule-of-law state,” user Ismail Fataliyev wrote. “I believe that (the law enforcer) should be punished with full severity of the law,” user Fuad Kyulmamedov shared his opinion.

“The policeman had no right to use a firearm against the unarmed man. [...] Despite all that, are they going to acquit him? Do I understand that correctly? Where is the justice? [...] Still, I really hope that he (Vladimir Putin) will intervene in the situation and punish the killer,” user Aishen Abdullaeva expressed her point of view.
