Social network users outraged by unsanitary conditions on Makhachkala beaches

The Dagestan branch of the "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) has banned swimming and bathing on the beaches of Makhachkala, explaining this by the risk of getting parasitic and intestinal infections. Instagram users demanded to liquidate the unsanitary status of beaches instead of closing them.

The announcement about the ban on swimming and bathing on beaches of Makhachkala was posted in the evening on May 28 on the Dagestani branch's Instagram page. The reasons for the ban are indicated as the exceeding of the norms for microbiological indicators by 84.6%, and for sanitary and chemical indicators – by 90%. The beaches are polluted because of discharge of untreated sewage and storm water, the post has explained.

In their comments to the post, social network users were outraged by the unsanitary conditions on the beaches.

"It's shame and disgrace! The sea is nearby, but there's no benefit to the population," the user naida7803 is indignant. "They just state that you can't bathe, but do nothing to improve the situation," the user firuza_navruzbegovna has written. "Right! It's better to prohibit than to eliminate the pollution problem. Otherwise, nobody will attend the water parks for money," the user malii_m777 has suggested.

"I've been living in Makhachkala for 20 years, and I don't remember that swimming was allowed. Is anyone doing anything to solve the problem?" the user marvina__13 has asked.
