Resident of Ingushetia suspected of links with Syrian militants

A 43-year-old resident of the Sunzha District of Ingushetia is suspected of participating in a terrorist organization, an illegal armed formation (IAF) and undergoing training in terrorist activities.

According to investigators, he left for Syria in 2016, where he voluntarily joined an anti-government armed grouping and took part in activities thereof – he has firearms, ammunition and is at war against the Syrian government army. Also, the suspect voluntarily underwent training in terrorist activities, the Investigating Department for Ingushetia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported on May 27.

However, the suspect made no attempts to refuse from his membership in the terrorist organization and never turned to law enforcement bodies with a corresponding application, says the statement on the website of the above Department.

The investigation of the criminal case was launched following the results of a joint check conducted by the Ingush Branch of the Russian FSB and the Centre for Countering Extremism of the Republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the "Interfax" has reported.
