Kadyrov explains high unemployment in Chechnya by laziness of local residents

In Chechnya, despite the high rate of unemployment, there are enough vacancies with decent wages, Ramzan Kadyrov says. The leader of Chechnya called residents of the republic “lazybones.” Actual wages are much lower than those announced by Ramzan Kadyrov, and huge bribes are extorted for employment, Instagram users argue.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in September 2020, Chechen Prime Minister Muslim Khuchiev announced that before the beginning of the pandemic, the unemployment rate in the republic was only 8%, but has since grown to 25%. Instagram users considered both numbers underestimated and pointed to difficulties in finding jobs and refusal of officials to register unemployed people.

“There is work for those who want to work. And everything else is an excuse for lazybones,” Ramzan Kadyrov said as quoted by the “Chechnya Today”.

Instagram user bilal_393.95 notes that the lowest wage mentioned by Ramzan Kadyrov is not enough for living.

Other Instagram users claim that people have to give bribes for employment in the republic.

Earlier, on the air of the “Grozny” TV Channel, residents of Chechnya have been called “lazybones.” In the autumn of 2019, an officer from the “Chechenstroi” accused residents of the republic of unwillingness to work. According to him, there are many vacancies with high wages in Chechnya, but mostly citizens of Azerbaijan and the republics of Central Asia work at construction sites.

Residents of Chechnya claim that in fact, workers are often deceived and their wages are not paid or lowered.
