Sochi Mayoralty explains shadowing pupils in social networks by teachers' initiative

The class teachers at a Sochi school, with reference to the instruction of the city authorities, have been charged with monitoring the "suspicious" content on the pages in the social networks of their pupils starting from the 7th form, one of the teachers said. Olga Medvedeva, the head of the education and science department of the Sochi Mayoralty, said that no instructions on monitoring pupils' pages had been sent to schools.

A teacher of one of Sochi schools has posted on her Twitter the information that class teachers starting from form 7 and up had been instructed to check their pupils' pages in social networks. After the message was spread in the media, she restricted access to this entry on her page in the Twitter.

In her turn, the above Olga Medvedeva has refuted the reports that teachers had been instructed to monitor the social networks of "unreliable" students. According to her version, the teachers undertook this work on their own initiative.

"The Mayoralty didn't give such instructions. Teachers have always done this themselves," Ms Medvedeva told the "Caucasian Knot".

Mikael Nersesyan, the head of the press service of the Sochi Mayoralty, has also stated that officials did not pass such instructions to teachers.
