Victims of Georgian law enforcers turn for help to EU and USA

Those who suffered from law enforcers' actions during the harsh dispersal of the rally in Tbilisi in June 2019, have asked, in their appeals to the Embassies of the European Union (EU) and the United States, not to allow applying amnesty to those responsible for the use of violence on the so-called "Gavrilov's Night".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 19, members of some Georgian oppositional parties and the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party came to an agreement to resolve the political crisis in the country, which includes, among other things, an amnesty for political prisoners and the holding of parliamentary elections. On April 24, about a dozen activists protested in front of the Georgian Parliament, demanding from the authorities not to pardon the law enforcers, who had taken part in the violent dispersal of the rally against the visit of Sergey Gavrilov, a Russian State Duma MP, in June 2019.

The victims of the violent dispersal of the rally in June 2019 have handed over to the Embassies of the EU and USA an appeal with a request not to allow using amnesty to those law enforcers who took part in the harsh suppression of the protest, Irakli Khvadagiani, one of the victims and the head of the NGO "Sovlab", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on May 14.

According to the victims' appeal, a gross disproportionate force was used against them as peaceful demonstrators by Georgian law enforcers.
