Advocate refutes Kadyrov's statements about Ukrainian trace in Nemtsov's murder

No Ukrainian traces have been found in the inquiry materials concerning the murder of the opposition leader, Boris Nemtsov, Vadim Prokhorov, an advocate of the Nemtsov family, has stated. In the opinion of Yegor Skovoroda, a "Mediazona" editor, this version was used after the murder as an attempt to divert investigators away from the Chechen trace.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported about the joint journalistic investigation conducted by the "Mediazona" and the Scanner Project. According to the above journalistic investigation, the chronology of calls and videos and the information about air travel points to the involvement of several natives of Chechnya in the assassination of Boris Nemtsov: they were not sentenced, although identified. the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, had sharply criticized the journalistic investigation by the "Mediazona" and the "Scanner Project", by suggesting "working out" not the Chechen, but the Ukrainian trace in Boris Nemtsov's murder.

Russian politician Boris Nemtsov was shot dead in Moscow on February 27, 2015. In 2017, the court found five natives of Chechnya guilty of committing the murder, and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from 11 to 20 years.

There are no real traces connected with Ukraine in Nemtsov's murder case, Vadim Prokhorov, an advocate of the Nemtsov family, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "It is absolutely clear that Ramzan Kadyrov <...> is trying 'shooting off the tails' towards Ukraine," he said.

The Ukrainian trace version is inconsistent; and it was duly assessed at the stage of inquiry, said Yegor Skovoroda, an editor of the "Mediazona", who had worked for the above inquiry by "Mediazona" and "Scanner Project" into Nemtsov's murder.

"The Ukrainian trace is a propaganda trick invented immediately after the murder; it was picked up in an attempt to divert the investigation aside," Mr Skovoroda told the "Caucasian Knot".

Investigators managed to correctly identify direct perpetrators of the murder, he believes. "Maybe not all the convicts, but four out of five there were somehow involved in the shadowing and the murder. These people seem to have nothing to do with either Ukraine or the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine), but they were rather connected with Chechen law enforcers, and, apparently, through Ruslan Geremeev and Aslanbek Khataev – directly with Chechen top officials. This can be seen from their phone calls and ties," Yegor Skovoroda has noted.
