Tkibuli miners suspend their strike

After their meeting with the MP, who invited them to discuss their demands with the mining company, workers of a Tkibuli mine agreed to suspend their protest strike. No official agreements have been reached yet; and if their demands are not met, the strike will be resumed, miners have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 10, eleven Georgian strikers demanded to be paid their January wages in full. The trade union has treated the wages decrease due to minors' failure to cope with coal production plan as unjustified.

Workers at the Dzidziguri and Mindeli Mines in Tkibuli have protested repeatedly over unsafe working conditions. Thus, on June 11, 2020, they demanded to repair the elevator after some miners got stuck therein. The company bosses accused miners themselves of violating labour safety rules.

Today, Bezhan Tsakadze, the MP from Tkibuli, Terzhola, Zestafoni and Bagdadi, has arrived in Tkibuli and conducted negotiations with the workers of the Dzidziguri Mine for several hours, the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel has reported. The MP said that the strikers agreed to continue discussing the problems at the negotiating table.
