Arrest of Ingush activist, Ali Khamkhoev, in Magas protest case upheld

Ali Khamkhoev, a resident of Ingushetia, suspected of using violence against a state official at a rally in Magas, will remain under arrest until January 25, 2021.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 26, 2019, opponents of the agreement on the Chechen-Ingush border refused to disperse after an authorized rally in the city of Magas. As a result, ordinary protesters were accused of attacking law enforcers; while and the organizers of the rally were accused of creating an extremist community.

Ali Khamkhoev was detained on November 26. According to his advocate, he has no complaints about the custody conditions at the SIZO (pre-trial prison). Zubeir Khamkhoev, Ali's brother, who had been also convicted under the rally case, was released from the colony in June 2020.
