US court stops murder case of Chechen native

The Florida Federal Court in the United States has terminated proceedings on the claim lodged by relatives of Ibragim Todashev, a native of Chechnya, who was shot dead by Aaron McFarlan, an FBI agent, during interrogation in 2013.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the 26-year-old Ibragim Todashev was shot dead on May 22, 2013, by the above FBI agent during the interrogation conducted within the inquiry into the terror act committed in Boston and the triple murder in Waltham in 2011, of which one of the alleged performer of the terror act – Tamerlan Tsarnaev, a Todashev's acquaintance – was suspected; Tsarnaev who was killed during detention.

The Federal Court in the Midtown District of Florida has stopped the consideration of the lawsuit lodged against Aaron McFarlan, an FBI agent, in connection with the 2013 murder of Ibragim Todashev, the TASS Russian News Agency has reported today citing the Court.

In August, McFarlan's advocates petitioned for terminating the proceedings, asserting that their client had acted as a state servant, like other intelligence officers. In their petition, they referred to a 2018 court ruling, according to which the actions of the FBI agents, including McFarlan, were found to be duly justified. The defence asked to dismiss the case, stating that "in the light of the previous court ruling, there is no need to continue the proceedings." The court found these arguments reasonable, the TASS has noted.
