Opposition activists and journalists fall victim to attack in Marneuli

Two activists of the United National Movement (UNM) and five journalists received traumas in Marneuli after they were attacked by supporters of the ruling Georgian Dream Party, the victims said on September 30.

The brawl broke out in Marneuli on September 29. According to Giorgi Mumladze, one of the victims, an observer from the NGO "Civil Platform", first he and Lasha Kveladze, a UNM activist, were injured, then, two hours later, the journalists of the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV and the "Public Broadcaster" were beaten up.

"In total, seven people received traumas – myself, Lasha Kveladze, two cameramen and two journalists from the 'Mtavari Arkhi' and a journalist from the 'Public Broadcaster'," Mr Mumladze told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Mumladze, he and Mokhamedali were attacked by 10 people, including local officials and activists of the Georgian Dream Party, and none of them was detained.

Giorgi Mumladze has added that a criminal case has been opened on the attack on oppositional activists and journalists.
