Signature collection launched for investigation of threat to Dagestani journalist Anokhina

The "Nash Gorod" (Our City) movement began collecting signatures to the appeal addressed to the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) with a demand to open a case on threats to kill received by Svetlana Anokhina and punish the Dagestani law enforcers for inaction after Svetlana's complaint.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Svetlana Anokhina, a Dagestani journalist, left the republic after the police refused to investigate the telephone threats she had received. She is sure that the one who threatened her is linked with law enforcers, and the system "protects its people" by refusing to initiate a criminal case.

Any threat to a journalist in Dagestan, where 19 journalists have perished in 25 years, must be taken seriously, said Said Ninalalov, a journalist.

The refusal to initiate a criminal case has forced colleagues to write this appeal, Idris Yusupov, a journalist, has pointed out.
