Defendant in Kullar protest case transferred under house arrest

In Dagestan, a court mitigated the pre-trial restriction measure to Azerbaijani citizen Anvar Muradov, who was arrested after clashes in a camp on the border. Anvar Muradov insists that he was not throwing stones at law enforcers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 7, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan cancelled the decision on the arrest of Anvar Muradov and decided to reconsider the issue of the pre-trial restriction measure. Relatives of Anvar Muradov claim the man is not guilty.

On June 15, a protest action took place at the Kullar camp, which turned into clashes with the police. Four law enforcers and 10 citizens of Azerbaijan were injured. 83 protesters were arrested for 10 days. On August 13, three defendants were left in custody for another month. Another defendant, Elmar Mekhdiev, has been placed under house arrest.

According to investigators, during the protest action, Anvar Muradov was throwing stones and "objects at hand" at the law enforcers.

30-year-old Anvar Muradov came to Russia in 2019 and married there. In the spring, the man decided to go home to visit his parents and collect documents for obtaining Russian citizenship. However, on April 4, he failed to cross the border because of the restrictions imposed in connection with the spread of the coronavirus infection and stayed in the camp near the Kullar village.

Anvar Muradov insists that he was only watching the protest action at the camp. However, he was rudely detained with the use of a stunning electric shock device.
