Dagestani MMA fighter Nurmagomedov ignores videos with teenagers' insults and apologies

In the Caucasus, insults expressed to a person personally and voiced in front of his image are equally acute. However, in the case of the teenagers who insulted Khabib Nurmagomedov, it would be better for the athlete's reputation not to react to them, Caucasus experts note.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that two teenagers apologized to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the video in which they voiced insults in front of a cardboard figure with a portrait of the athlete.

Insults publicly addressed to a portrait of a person should be equated with insults spoken to the face, Akhmet Yarlykapov believes.

The teenagers' statements can be also perceived as a children's prank, it depends on their age, the Caucasian expert notes. "If they are old enough, for example, 17-18-year-old guys, then they are already responsible for their words and deeds," the expert believes.

Akhmet Yarlykapov doubts that Khabib Nurmagomedov will suffer image losses if he does not react to the teenagers' act. The expert also did not rule out that the teenagers were forced to record a video with apologies. However, he also noted that the practice of public apologies undermined the credibility of their sincerity.

This year, in Dagestan, there were at least four cases of public apologies to law enforcers.

According to the Koran, insults expressed to an image of a person are equal to insults to the person being portrayed, says Arabist Vladimir Sotnikov. The expert admits that the teenagers' actions may be perceived as a simple prank. According to Vladimir Sotnikov, the athlete will ignore the insults, since it is unbecoming for his reputation to react to them.
