Detentions

On June 25, at least nine persons were detained after searches in the village of Psyzh in the Abazinsky District of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), where Abazins live. Detainees' relatives reported that law enforcers had planted weapons on two detainees, and extremist literature – on the rest of them. Dozens of villagers gathered outside the building of the Centre for Combating Extremism (CCE) in Cherkessk, the KChR capital, and demanded to explain where the detainees were kept, but received no answer. According to relatives, advocates are not allowed to visit the detainees.
