Dagestan doctor calls for protecting colleagues from COVID-19

Authorities should provide the doctors who treat coronavirus patients with protective garments, Salim Khalitov, a former head of the radiation diagnostics ward at the orthopaedic and trauma centre, has declared at a protest action in Makhachkala.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that back on January 29, Khalitov demanded from the Dagestan Ministry of Public Health to admit violations in the work of the above centre and punish those guilty.

"Today, our republic and the whole world are in a very difficult situation. People are dying every day! My medical colleagues are no exception, and I can't see them working without personal protective means," Mr Khalitov is quoted in the Facebook page of the NGO "Patient's Monitor".

As of May 6, Dagestan is the leader in registered coronavirus cases in Northern Caucasus: 2267 confirmed cases; 15 people died.

Earlier, on May 5, social network users criticized the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party for donating a car to a hospital in Dagestan. During the epidemic, a more appropriate donation would be medicines and protection means, the users have noted.
