Georgian authorities cancel mass events due to coronavirus

The government recommended local authorities to cancel all mass events; 120 people are quarantined, the press service of the Prime Minister of Georgia has informed.

The Inter-Ministerial Council, set up in Georgia to prevent the spread of the Covid-2019 coronavirus, has recommended local authorities to cancel all public events and disinfect public institutions, governmental departments, railway stations and trains. The governors of all regions have set up working groups to implement the above recommendations, the Premier's press service reported on March 2.

Because of the threat of the spread of coronavirus in crowded places, all the surfaces are treated and dispensers with disinfectant liquid are being installed; and quarantine works has been carried out in the building of the Parliament, the report says.

The human rights organization "42nd Article of the Constitution" has announced a switchover, from March 2, to remote work, a number of Tbilisi theatres have cancelled the scheduled performances, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

On March 2, samples of 14 persons were sent to check for possible coronavirus infection. Over 120 suspected infected persons are under quarantine. In recent days, the number of cases has not increased; three people have been infected; their health condition is without complications, Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Director General of the National Centre for Disease Control, said on air of the "Imedi" Georgian TV Channel.
