Residents of Abkhazia complain of loss of earnings because of Georgian boarder closure

Residents of the regions of Abkhazia bordering on Georgia claim the absence of earning money, if the authorities finally close the border with Georgia because of the coronavirus. Many will have to move to live in Georgia, they have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the first case of coronavirus infection was detected on February 26 in Georgia. After that, the authorities of Abkhazia completely stopped communicating therewith.

Only citizens of Abkhazia will be allowed in from Georgia; restrictions will not affect residents of border districts and Russian citizens, Tamaz Tsakhnakiya, the Abkhazian Minister of Public Health, has informed.

"We actually have no work here. If the border is closed, we will probably have to live in Georgia until the quarantine is lifted," said Adgur Arshilava, a resident of the Gali District.

Social network users have reacted calmly to the closure of the Georgian-Abkhazian border. "We don't live as crowded as in big cities. We have practically no public places with large crowds of people," said Madina Tsvizhba, a resident of Gagra.
